'Zero Dark Thirty' Over 'Lincoln' for NY Film Crix?

Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty

Gold Derby forecasters predict Zero Dark Thirty, director Kathryn Bigelow's thriller about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, will win Best Picture in today's voting for the New York Film Critics Circle Award. As the first film major film award of the season, that could be a coup for the film which doesn't even open until Dec. 19. Will the explosion-filled feature beat out my top choice Lincoln when the Golden Globes and Oscars are handed out and can Bigelow repeat her Hurt Locker success? The Gold Derby crew also favors Jessica Chastain to take Best Actress for Zero. Chastain is only in contention for one film this year. This will be a switch from last year when she was in six films and won numerous awards (incl. from the Gotham crix) in the supporting category for multiple pix including The Help, Tree of Life, and Take Shelter. Chastain is currently starring on Broadway in The Heiress and has received mixed notices for her Main Stem debut. Here's mine on ArtsinNY.com (just scroll down).

Speaking of Broadway, the first holiday closing of the season has been announced. Chaplin will end its run at the Barrymore Theatre on Jan. 6, 2013 after 24 previews and 136 regular performances. Click on the ArtsinNY link for my review which is further down the page. Can Scandalous be far behind?
